Turkish passport photo size explained
A Turkish passport photo is a vertical 50×60 mm photo, also written as 5×6 cm. That size is taller than the square 2×2 inch passport photo used in the United States, so a US-format print is not the right Turkish passport photo size. In our template the head size is about 34 mm from the chin to the top of the head, and the top of the hair sits about 10 mm below the top edge of the photo. A print at 300 DPI keeps the passport photo sharp at this size, with clear detail in the eyes and the outline of the face.
Background colour and lighting
The photo background for a Turkey passport photo is a plain, even light grey. There should be no shadows behind your head, no patterns, no furniture and no other people in the photo. Even light from the front is the easiest way to avoid shadows on the face and on the wall. Face, pose and expression
A biometric Turkish passport photo shows your full face looking straight at the camera. Keep a neutral expression with your mouth closed and both eyes open, and keep your head straight, not tilted or turned. Hair should not cover your eyes or the outline of your face. Glasses can cause glare, so it is safest to take them off before the photo. Use a recent photo that looks like you today.
How many photos you need and where they go
The application asks for two recent biometric passport photos, together with your valid identity card (Kimlik), the completed application form and the receipt for the passport fee. In Turkey you book an appointment at the passport office (Nüfus Müdürlüğü) or online through the e-Devlet portal, where you can also track your application online. If you live outside Turkey, check the official consular site konsolosluk.gov.tr for current information before you apply. At the appointment you may also need to give biometric data, such as fingerprints and a photo taken at the office, in addition to the passport photos you bring.
Getting a Turkish passport photo online
You can make the whole passport photo online, without a studio. Printed photo or digital photo
This Turkey passport photo works both ways. Download the digital photo file if a form asks you to upload a passport photo online, or print it at 300 DPI on photo paper and cut it to the 50×60 mm size for the passport office. Print two copies so you have both photos for the application. When you print at home or in a shop, choose "actual size" or 100% so the printer does not scale the photo to a different size. Check that the print is sharp, in colour and the right size, and that the light grey background has no stains or shadows before you hand the photos in. Keep the digital passport photo file, so you can print another passport photo later without a new photo session.
Renewal and passport photos for children
When you renew your passport, the process is similar to the first application: bring your current passport, a new application form and updated photos. An old passport photo from the previous application is not a recent photo. Adult passports are valid for 10 years and passports for minors under 18 are valid for 5 years, so children need a new Turkish passport photo more often. Turkey issues the ordinary passport (Bordo) for general travel, the official passport (Hususi) for government officials and their families, and the diplomatic passport (Diplomatik) for diplomats and high-ranking officials.
