The Indonesian e-visa portal asks for a digital photo upload, not a print. Our online check tests your photo against every size and quality rule below.
The Indonesia e-visa covers tourism, business and social visits in one online process on the official Directorate General of Immigration portal. Every applicant uploads a passport photo when they register an account, so the visa photo is the first file you need. There is no paper form and no printed photo: you upload a digital visa photo online. Indonesian visa fees are non-refundable once paid, and a rejected photo means a full resubmission, so get your e-visa photo right before you open the portal.
The official e-Visa User Manual sets a minimum photo size of 400×600 pixels. No maximum pixel size is stated. Our template uses exactly this size, 400×600 pixels, with the head at about 60% of the photo height and about 8% of free space above the hair. The manual asks for the head, from the bottom of the chin to the top of the hair, to fill 50–60% of the image height, and for the eye level to sit 50–60% of the height up from the bottom edge. Together these two rules leave a narrow window for head size and position, which is why a quick phone crop often fails. A visa photo of the right pixel size with a head that is too small is still rejected.
The manual accepts a colour photo in JPEG, JPG or PNG format, up to 2 MB. A grayscale visa photo fails regardless of its pixel size. Our maker exports the visa photo under 240 KB, well inside the file size limit. If you edit the visa photo yourself and the file size is too large, lower the export quality a little instead of cropping below the 400×600 pixel minimum size.
The published manual does not name a background colour for the photo. Our visa photo template uses a plain red background. The portal may show its current background expectation during the upload step, so check the screen there before you submit. Whatever the colour, the background must be plain, with no patterns, furniture or other people in the visa photo.
The passport identity page is a separate upload from your visa photo. The manual asks for the scan to be sharp, in focus, not covered, not cropped, not folded and in landscape orientation. Do not send the passport page as your photo, and do not crop the photo out of the passport page: the visa photo must be its own file at the right size.
Every foreigner first creates an account at evisa.imigrasi.go.id by uploading a passport identity page and a passport photo, filling in the registration form and activating the account through the emailed link. The online application then has three steps: upload the passport identity page, fill in the visa type and personal details with a payment method, and review all data before you submit. After payment the application goes through verification, validation and profiling before a decision.
The manual does not publish separate photo rules for children, glasses or religious head coverings. The general rules apply to every visa photo: the full face is visible from chin to crown, the person faces the camera, and the photo meets the 400×600 pixel size with a neutral face. For a case the manual does not cover, contact the Directorate General of Immigration through the portal or an Indonesian representative office abroad.
The Indonesian visa must be used to enter Indonesia within 90 days of the issue date, and your passport needs at least 6 months of validity on arrival. You can show the visa on your phone or as a print at the immigration counter. A guarantor in Indonesia, such as an Indonesian citizen or a company, can also apply for the visa on your behalf through the same online portal. If you qualify for the Indonesia eVoA instead, it needs no account and is issued instantly.

Look straight into the lens with a neutral face, mouth closed, in formal clothing. Keep other people and objects out of the photo.
Face a window for even daylight; a window behind you leaves your face in shadow. The AI replaces the background of the photo.
