The U.S. Department of State has officially stated regarding DV-2027:

  • they are implementing changes,
  • the registration start date will be announced later (“as soon as practicable”),
  • but the visa issuance period for selected DV-2027 applicants remains unchanged: from October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027.

This is the correct wording: it is not a cancellation, but a shift/pause in the start of registration.

So far, it has not been officially published what exactly will change in the eDV entry form (questions/fields). However, there are two very strong signals indicating “which way the wind is blowing”:

  1. The White House explicitly justifies the expansion of restrictions by stating that the U.S. must exercise “extreme vigilance” in visa and immigration processes.
  2. The Department of State has already announced that it is implementing changes to the DV entry process and that the DV-2027 registration start will be announced separately.

👉 Therefore, our forecast is that additional security elements may indeed appear in the DV process — extra clarifying questions/fields, greater attention to background information, contacts, travel history, service, previous statuses, etc. This is not “because of fear,” but because, from a regulatory and political standpoint, the system is moving toward stricter oversight of foreign nationals and the protection of U.S. citizens.

We understand the anxiety caused by the news. However, it is important to know that, according to the official position of the U.S. Department of State, this is not about cancelling the DV lottery, but about changes to the process and a postponement of the DV-2027 registration start date, which will be announced separately. At the same time, the visa period for selected DV-2027 applicants remains unchanged: 10/01/2026–09/30/2027. The Department of State has published lists of countries subject to visa issuance restrictions, and Russia is not included in those lists.
